Tasty food, aromatic and well-spiced without being spicy, and a nice selection of appetizers and entrees. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated and the service is attentive. As a bonus, you can bring your own wine. Well worth visiting if you live in the general area
OK, now that PJ Horgan's is history, we're down to a select few remaining old school Irish bars in Queens. This is one of them. Nice non-trendy atmosphere, friendly waitresses, and you don't have to pay 16 bucks to eat a burger -- and needless to say Donovan's burger is truly one of the best in NYC. For the boomers who still remember Queens when a one-bedroom dump in Sunnyside/Woodside cost what it was worth -- about $200 instead of the current laughable $1800 -- Donovan's is greatly appreciated, but even millennials can enjoy the burgers and suds.
The Mountaineer is a beautiful store with excellent merchandise, from heavy-duty back-country equipment to high-end clothing, and a knowledgable and friendly staff. Always fun to stop here en route to Lake Placid and the High Peaks and tough to walk out of the place without buying something, whether you need it or not!
Nice, diverse menu, reliable food and very good service. Although the current Donovan's lacks some of the charm and coziness of the old Donovan's, it's an attractive room, provides a good atmosphere, and the bar area is attractive as well. Not much more to say about the food or ambiance. Just a good, local choice.
Can't recommend this cozy little neighborhood restaurant enough, which is why I'm writing a follow-up review in support. This is a restaurant that deserves to do well. The pasta and sauces are fresh and delicious, the service super-friendly, and we finally tried the thin-crust pizza, which was delicious (our kids seconded the appraisal when we brought them home the leftovers to reheat). You're getting Manhattan-quality Italian food at Queens prices, and with a nice little bonus that you can bring along your own wine. Try this wonderful restaurant and you won't be disappointed on any level.
Forno's is a nice little neighborhood place, kind of cozy, with fresh-tasting pasta, flavored well, and friendly service. Haven't tried to pizza yet but it looks delicious. No liquor license here so BYOB. Worth traveling to for a meal.
